During the final laps of Saturday’s NASCAR Truck race at Michigan, rookie Gio Ruggiero and Cup star Ross Chastain were set for a dramatic finish but both got caught in a chaotic crash with 5 laps to go. Trying to hold off on accelerating, Ruggiero and Chastain saw 12 trucks get involved in the wreck that followed, leaving their trucks severely damaged. Among the drivers caught in the incident were Corey Heim, Jake Garcia, Tanner Gray, and others. Ruggiero expressed uncertainty about what occurred, stating he needed to watch the replay to understand the crash. Heim, frustrated by the sequence of events, mentioned on the radio that the partnership with Ruggiero didn’t pan out as planned. Chastain indicated receiving a forceful push from behind, leading to the collision, as the race extended into triple overtime before Stewart Friesen claimed victory, ending a three-year winless streak.
